Sutraya

Terms of Service

Last updated 28 July 2026

These terms govern your use of Sutraya. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them.

1. Who we are

Sutraya is operated by [legal entity name], registered in [jurisdiction], at [registered address]. You can reach us at [contact@yourdomain].

2. The service

Sutraya is a search-first library and reader for ancient texts, with grounded question answering, translation assistance, and OCR. Some features use third-party language models; see section 6.

We may change, add, or remove features. If a change materially reduces what a paid plan provides, we will tell paying subscribers in advance and you may cancel for a pro-rata refund of the unused period.

3. Your account

You must provide an accurate email address and keep your password confidential. You are responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 16, or the age of digital consent where you live if that is higher.

We may suspend or terminate an account that abuses the service, attempts to circumvent usage limits, or uses it unlawfully. Where practical we will warn you first.

4. Plans, billing, and cancellation

Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or annually, through Stripe. We do not receive or store your card details.

Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your account; access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for. See our refunds and cancellation policy.

Prices may change with at least 30 days’ notice, effective at your next renewal.

5. Texts, licences, and your content

The corpus combines public-domain material and openly licensed texts from third parties, each under its own terms. Provenance and licences are listed on our sources page. A paid subscription buys access to the service — it does not grant rights over source texts beyond their own licences, and some material may not be redistributed.

You keep ownership of what you create: translations, drafts, notes, and saved items. You grant us only the licence needed to store and display it back to you, and to publish it where you explicitly choose to publish. You can export or delete your content at any time.

6. AI features and their limits

Ask, translation, and OCR use large language models. They make mistakes. Translations of classical languages in particular carry interpretive choices that a model cannot make reliably, and citations should be checked against the source text — which is why we show the source alongside every answer.

Do not rely on AI output for scholarly publication, ritual practice, legal, medical, or financial decisions without independent verification. Prompts and generated text may be processed by third-party model providers; see the privacy policy.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • scrape or bulk-download the corpus outside the documented API
  • resell or redistribute access, or share account credentials
  • circumvent usage limits, including by creating multiple accounts
  • attempt to extract model provider keys or interfere with the service
  • upload material you do not have the right to upload

8. Availability

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Maintenance, third-party provider outages, and faults happen. No specific uptime is promised unless separately agreed in writing.

9. Liability

The service is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties and are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or lost data. Our total liability in any twelve-month period is limited to what you paid us in that period.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death, personal injury, or fraud. Consumer rights under your local law are unaffected.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction], and disputes will be heard by its courts. If you are a consumer in the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be announced by email or in the app at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Sutraya after that means you accept them.
