Textual history

Utpaladeva's Īśvarapratyabhijñākārikā is the foundational verse treatise of the Recognition school. Abhinavagupta wrote two commentaries: the shorter Vimarśinī and the vast Vivṛtivimarśinī on Utpaladeva's own Vivṛti. This witness is the Vimarśinī — the more widely studied introductory commentary.
