A Trainee

Sekkhasutta

EN
At Sāvatthī. Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha … and asked him, “Sir, they speak of the one called ‘a trainee’. How is a trainee defined?”
PL
Sāvatthinidānaṁ. Atha kho aññataro bhikkhu yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami …pe… ekamantaṁ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaṁ etadavoca: “‘sekkho, sekkho’ti, bhante, vuccati. Kittāvatā nu kho, bhante, sekkho hotī”ti?
EN
“Mendicant, it’s someone who has a trainee’s right view, right purpose, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right immersion. That’s how a trainee is defined.”
PL
“Idha, bhikkhu, sekkhāya sammādiṭṭhiyā samannāgato hoti …pe… sekkhena sammāsamādhinā samannāgato hoti. Ettāvatā kho, bhikkhu, sekkho hotī”ti. Tatiyaṁ.
